Youth Civic

Youth Civics:

Through the Youth Civics component, G-Youth empowers youth to resolve conflicts and to promote principles and practices of tolerance and peaceful coexistence among diverse communities.  EDC and the Kenya Institute for Education (KIE) will work as partners to reach an estimated 25,000 upper primary school students through Interactive Radio Instruction (IRI) programs in Garissa and post election violence-affected regions of Nairobi, Naivasha and Nakuru with life skills and civics education curriculum that emphasizes practical communications, negotiation and conflict resolution skills that are the building blocks of democratic participation.

 G-Youth program also trains youth in basic radio production skills, journalism and radio management to enable the youth produce a youth civics education radio program to be broadcast over Star FM, a local radio station that operates in Northeastern and either get a job at local radios or pursue higher education in the field of media.  In partnership with Star FM, G-Youth creates a platform where youth can have a voice. The youth-led radio programs which is expected to reach 35,000 youth gives them the independence to address thematic social concerns such as:  democracy, conflict resolution, peace building and other national issues such as the rights of youth in the new Kenyan constitution.
