About G-Youth

The Garissa Youth Project (G-Youth) is designed to create enabling environments that empower youth in different ways through a youth-owned, youth-led model.  The project supports youth in designing and managing initiatives that improve economic and social opportunities for themselves and their communities, enables increased numbers of Garissan youth to have greater access to livelihood opportunities and the world of work, increases youth retention and transition to secondary schools and higher education, and empowers youth to promote principles and practices of tolerance and peaceful coexistence among diverse communities through civic education.

A cornerstone of the project is supporting the creation of a youth led organizations in Garissa’s five locations of Galbet, Medina, Township, Iftin, Waberi by giving them grants to create and implement projects that help to uplift and improve their communities.  The Garissa Youth Fund provides genuine youth empowerment opportunities that provides scholarships to further youth’s educational goals and opportunities for leadership training .

 

The G-Youth  project is designed in a manner which integrates activities across all the four components so the activities complement and reinforce one another.  G-Youth activities fall into the following components:

 

1.   Youth Action: The Youth Action component supports the development of the youth organization.  This organization will facilitate the implementation of annual youth summits and a regional youth action plan.


  1. Youth Education: The Youth Education activities are intended to strengthen the   opportunities of Garissa youth to access quality formal education learning opportunities, and gain needed skills in workforce preparedness, civic engagement, and family life.


  1. Youth Work: This component strengthens Garissa youth to have access to employment and livelihood opportunities.


  1. Youth Civics: The goal of this component is to empower youth with the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes needed to help resolve community conflicts, work collaboratively within ethnically diverse groups, and constructively engage in civic activities and political life.
